Transition Task

Practical task – using the equipment

Task 1: ‘Making a Scene’

In groups of no more than 3, agree on a scene from one of your favourite films. Recreate this to the best of your ability, following the original dialogue, shooting and editing.  You will not be able to recreate the original mise-en-scene but do give thought to where you are shooting and what can be seen through the lens.

Make sure you choose a scene that can be filmed (from a logistical perspective).

The aim of this task is to assess your ability to use the camera and editing software effectively and to give you an opportunity to use the various technology and equipment that we have in the Audio Visual Library (Skills).

Task 2: ‘Creative use of the DSLR’

Script and shoot a short scene where a character becomes upset and isolated. The runtime should be no more than 3 minutes.

You should control exposure and depth of field at all times and ensure that any lack of focus is intentional.

The aim of this task is to prepare you for the single camera unit next year and to continue honing your skills using the DSLRs.

Task 3: ‘Promotional Video’

Create a 2 minute video showcasing either one area of the college or the college as a whole. The video must promote the college positively and you should ensure your shooting is creative and polished. Liaise with relevant members of staff (arranged via Sean and Ellie).
